A whole day to celebrate chocolate, what’s not to love?
This year Penguin Office Supplies will be celebrating World Chocolate Day on 7th July and we hope you will join us.
The History lesson…
According to Wired Magazine chocolate was first introduced in Europe on July 7th 1550. Chocolate is native to Mexico, Central and South America.
Although it can be linked back to Christopher Columbus who may have brought cacoa beans back to Spain from one of his adventures as far back as 1504.
But what about the best chocolate biscuit ever, the Penguin?
The Penguin was first introduced in 1932 by William Macdonald, a biscuit manufacturer in Glasgow. It became a McVities brand in 1946 when Macdonald joined McVitie’s and Price, MacFarlane Lang & Co and Crawford to form United Biscuits.
Macdonald was inspired by some biscuits that he had seen in Antwerp and wanted to make something with a similar chocolate covered biscuit with a chocolate cream sandwich in the centre.
What we love most about Penguins are the funny jokes in each wrapper.
